Dear Eveleigh Heritage Friends
I am sending this around in case you have not heard of Brian Dunnett’s passing or the memorial being held at Leichhardt Town Hall Cnr Marion and Norton Streets Leichhardt Sunday July 10th at 12 noon.
Over the last ten or so years that I have worked with Brian around Redfern and Waterloo heritage issues he has made a huge contribution to help ensure the former Eveleigh Railway workshops were protected, interpreted and celebrated. He was constantly on the phone trying to get people in government, the labour movement, the arts and the community to do the right thing about Eveleigh and our heritage. When many gave up on dealing with the RWA, SMDA and UrbanGrowth Brian played on. It would be nice to find a way for him to be remembered at Eveleigh for his contribution to the protection and memory of the site.
The Search foundation has provided a short obituary that provides a wider view of Brian’s life you can see it here <http://us8.campaign-archive1.com/?u=5c3859aebacec2a9f474b0369&id=e0b9f1057f&e=60877ea0f4> you can also see the obituary on Australian Railway Songs <http://railwaysongs.blogspot.com.au/2016/06/vale-brian-dunnett.html>
I am sure Brian will receive a good send off and that his contribution to Eveleigh will be mentioned (and hopefully put to song) alongside his other lifetime endeavours.
Regrettably I will be overseas in July and will not be able to attend the memorial but would love to hear details when I am back in August!
Vale Brian Dunnett - REDWatch thanks you.
Regards,
Geoff
