Rose Jackson to also speak at REDWatch meeting with Tanya Plibersek
REDWatch are pleased to advise that NSW Minister for Housing Rose Jackson will also speak at the REDWatch meeting on Housing with Tanya Plibersek on Monday 5th June 6pm at Alexandria Town Hall.
Rose's participation, along with Linda Scott from the Australian Local Government Association, will provide a rare opportunity to hear Federal, State and Local Government perspectives on housing policy.
Minister Jackson will also have the opportunity to provide some clarity about the direction being taken by the NSW Labor Government to the redevelopment of existing public housing estates, like Waterloo South.
Minister Jackson will be accompanied by the CEO of the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC), Simon Newport to assist in answering questions.
Given the importance of this meeting, REDWatch is also providing a zoom link so that people can join the meeting virtually and submit questions to the Q&A through the chat function. The online link via Zoom is https://tinyurl.com/RedwatchZoomMeeting<https://tinyurl.com/RedwatchZoomMeeting?fbclid=IwAR0wbWKGpZEyQFnX41X03ypR3cZ5EYRRoHocTP-Bl9d03ExHrUu7aLvqAKo>
The meeting will be held at Alexandria Town Hall, 73 Garden Street, Alexandria NSW 2015 from 6-7 pm on Monday 5th June 2023. You can help promote the event by downloading the (pre Rose) Flyer<http://www.redwatch.org.au/eventnotice/230605redwp/at_download/file> or sharing the Facebook event<https://www.facebook.com/events/775680477598786/?ref=newsfeed> or this email.
We hope you can join us on Monday in person or online to hear our speakers and ask questions. We will endeavour to get through as many questions as possible but this is a shorter than usual REDWatch meeting due to speaker availability. We will be around after the meeting to discuss what we have heard and we can pass unanswered questions on to our speakers if they get given to us.
Housing Issue Background
In an article on the South Sydney Herald Website, REDWatch Secretary, Adam Antonelli has provided some background to the housing issue in Will we finally see the housing reforms we sorely need?<https://southsydneyherald.com.au/will-we-finally-see-the-housing-reforms-we-sorely-need/>
In brief, homelessness is increasing, rents are outpacing wage growth, and essential workers are priced out of the inner city. There is a pressing need for social and affordable housing. The Federal Labor Government have detailed their housing reform agenda with the Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Housing Accord. What are these programs, what impact will they have on the housing crisis, and how will the Federal Government work with the NSW Government to increase social and affordable housing?

Geoff
