The proposed changes remove people’s ability to quote on 80% of developments, supposedly in exchange for a greater say up front in strategic plans, like the Metro Strategy. On the REDWatch website you will find an overview to some of the issues under Draft Metro Strategy Exhibition - until 31 May 2013. The new planning system talks about improved community engagement in strategic plans like this but the Government has put the Metro Strategy, which in the new system is the Regional Growth Plan for Sydney, on exhibition before the new planning system with its focus on community participation is in place. This really brings the Government’s commitment to community engagement in planning into question. The Government should remove the Metro Strategy from exhibition and reintroduce, with much publicity, when the new planning system is in place. This document talks about how the RWA/SMDA has been “addressing social exclusion upfront to make an area more viable for urban renewal”(p34 footnote 8). The Metro Strategy promises to support strategic renewal in the highly accessible Central to Eveleigh corridor (p84) – potentially including North Eveleigh!

Future Directions for NSW Local Government - www.localgovernmentreview.nsw.gov.au/Index.asp?areaindex=LGR&index=49&acode=GL&mi=1 this is the report from an independent review of local Government it proposes City of Sydney being merged with Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Botany Bay and possibly Marrickville and Leichhardt.
