It looks like there will be quite a lot of activity going on this year to determine the future of the site. <b>The Working Group will meet again on 24 March at Carriageworks</b>. The University has said that they will include community comments they receive in their report back to the Department of Planning. <b>The formal exhibition however was for only 28 days and has now ended. The Dept will receive late submissions for a short period and community members are urged to get something in registering any objections they have ASAP</b>. This is because the University’s extension will not currently be counted as part of the statutory exhibition and so objections made to it will not be guaranteed as being registered by the Department and used to determine if the University’s proposal is assessed by an independent panel.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:6.0pt'>Over the last week we have learnt that <b>the Department requested the University to consult with community groups in their preparation of the plans. The University did not do this</b>. In fact the Planning Director General’s requirements specifically mentioned REDWatch and RAIDD (Residents Acting in Darlington’s Defence) as community groups the University needed to consult with. <b>You can see a brief item I did for the South Sydney Herald</b> on this under <a href="http://www.southsydneyherald.com.au/sydney-university-consultation-disaster/" title="Sydney University – consultation disaster">Sydney University – consultation disaster</a>. We have written to the Director General about the failure of the University to comply, the failure of the Dept to identify this non-compliance before exhibition and the disadvantage that has resulted for the community. <b>RAIDD have prepared the attached draft letter which they are encouraging people to send to the Department</b>.
