<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">On Saturday 7 September the City is hosting Northcott Pet Day at Ward Park, Surry Hills in partnership with RSPCA NSW, Cat Protection Society of NSW, Counterpoint Community Services and local vet clinics to provide
free pet health services for social housing residents living in the City of Sydney local area.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">Eligible residents can access free vaccinations, microchipping, flea and worming treatments, as well as booking in for free de-sexing for their pets. There will also be pet giveaways, music, information stalls,
raffle prizes, free pet tag engraving, a photo booth and face painting. Food trucks will also be providing free lunch and coffee while stocks last. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">Please note that City of Sydney residents will need to present their pension or healthcare card on the day to access free vaccinations, microchipping, and de-sexing appointments.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-AU">Consultation is currently underway for a development to the north of Redfern’s Block. The site is bounded by Vine Street, Eveleigh Street, Hudson Street and Evans Lane
and is proposed for a mixed use 3-6 storey development. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-AU">Planning for the area around The Block, including this site, was taken from Council by the Redfern Waterloo Authority (RWA) in 2006 and declared State Significant, hence
its planning is dealt with by the state government rather than Council. The RWA gave the site height controls of 3 and 5 storeys and the developer is looking for an increase to 5 to 6 storeys. The planning controls allow a Maximum Floor Space Ratio (FSR) of
3:1 which the initial proposal meets. The controls also put a maximum FSR of 1:1 for any residential development and the proposal comes in below this control.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-AU">The developer has applied for the Planning Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) and its application, initial plans and SEARs can be found on the planning

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">In September, the Waterloo Human Service Collaborative (WHSC) is asking agencies to focus on their referrals and how they might be improved. As part of this the Collaborative will run two surveys to better understand
referral practices for Waterloo clients and how referrals can be improved. One survey is aimed at service users, while the other focuses on agencies and their staff who make and receive referrals. The survey links are:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">The survey of Waterloo tenants showed high levels of loneliness on Waterloo’s public housing estate - 28% of respondents reported feeling lonely often, and 36% felt lonely some of the time. The Collaborative
has produced a <a href="https://waterloo2017.com/service-access-copy/#htoc-waterloo-community-navigators-tool-kit">
<span style="color:#0563C1">Waterloo Community Navigators Tool Kit</span></a> which is aimed to assist agency workers and volunteers help people to navigate to services. Not all signposting however needs to be to human services. For areas like social isolation
it is often about matching people’s interests with others who share that interest. Increasing wellbeing checks on people is hence often also about “social prescription”. At a recent conference we were introduced to ASPIRE (<a href="https://www.creatingopportunitiestogether.com.au/"><span style="color:#0563C1">Australian
Social Prescribing Institute of Research and Education</span></a>). <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt">The ASPIRE website is worth a look for those interested in how social prescribing can address the social determinants of health. While much of discussion is about how social prescription can be done on a large
scale, those working in local communities know about many of the social groups and activities that people can be introduced to within their local community. For those who do this as part of their local work, the ASPIRE website might provide some ideas of how
we do this better at a local level.<o:p></o:p></p>
