Dear REDWatch members, supporters and agencies,

REDWatch is pleased to advise that we, with Council's help, have been successful in negotiating a two week extension on the Large Erecting Shop (LES) exhibition until Thursday 24th November.

The link from the DPE information site : South Eveleigh Train Workshop<https://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/Plans-for-your-area/Priority-Growth-Areas-and-Precincts/South-Eveleigh-Train-Workshop> to the exhibition Large Erecting Shop rezoning proposal<https://pp.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/draftplans/exhibition/large-erecting-shop-rezoning-proposal> documents has also been fixed and close of exhibition date updated.

We have also alerted DPE of reports that there is no signage around the LES about the exhibition so people in the area will not be alerted to the proposal.

We have still not received an answer on the intent of the LES Explanation of Intended Effect Figure 6 area A and we are waiting for DPE to get back to us when they get clarification from Mirvac.

Please keep an eye on the REDWatch website www.redwatch.org.au<http://www.redwatch.org.au> and the REDWatch Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/RedfernEveleighDarlingtonWaterlooWatch> page for updates on this exhibition as people go through the documents.

One issue raised with REDWatch by heritage rail people since our initial email, is that the LES and the line on the southern side of it are the last of the active rail links into South Eveleigh and they are saying that an active rail link should be retained in the plan so that heritage locos and trains, such as 3801 can come into the site for heritage festivals and trips. Unlike the rest of the site that ceased active rail decades ago the LES has only recently stopped being used for heritage rail purposes and still contains heritage assets waiting for storage at Chullora to become available.

The main issue from REDWatch’s perspective is about how the scale and purpose of the LES can be preserved and interpreted with a three story building proposed to be built within the LES.

At a community meeting on Sunday held by Friends of Erskineville there was a strong push also for a bridge connecting this site to Carriageworks, especially given that TAHE / TfNSW are commercialising both sides of the railway line and the NSW Government have pocketed money previously committed to such a connection.

Please let REDWatch know of any of your concerns as you look at the proposal by emailing mail at redwatch.org.au<mailto:mail at redwatch.org.au> so that it can also inform the REDWatch submission.

Regards,

Geoff
